The technology behind AI involves the use of neural networks, which are computer systems that are designed to mimic the way that the human brain works. These networks can be trained on large amounts of data to learn the patterns and styles that are typical of different art genres. Once the neural network has been trained, it can be used to generate new images from scratch. This is done by inputting a set of parameters or constraints, such as the desired character design, color palette, and so on. The neural network then generates a new image that meets these constraints, using the patterns and styles that it has learned from the training data.

In 2015, I had my first experience with AI in art. Google launched a very simple application called Google Deep Dream, which generated an AI work from an uploaded image. I used my paintings. The experience was very random since there was still no way to enter prompts, and the algorithm reinterpreted the image in a very psychedelic way. Those were my first AI works representing dogs with dozens of reptilian eyes everywhere, and the feeling I had while creating them was something akin to magic.In 2022, I discovered Disco Diffusion, an open-source model that worked remotely and already allowed to create quite impressive artworks, both static and animated.The same year, DALL-E 2 and Midjourney came out, where the working experience was much better, and the results not as uncontrollable as in Disco Diffusion.

When I first started with AI, it was a pure experiment. The input painting was abstract and surreal as it became the final result. During my studies at the La Llotja Art and Craft Academy in Barcelona, where Picasso and Miró studied a long time ago, I practiced exercises in free interpretation and double images. I spent a lot of time just looking at random splashes of colors, recognizing shapes in them, and then drawing animals and surreal creatures upon them. Curiously, AI did the same in its own way. Over the years, I developed my own style of digital drawings. I worked with Universal Music on various music clips. I became more and more fascinated with surrealism, manga, and the sense of collaboration between artists, art movements, and styles. So, AI was a perfect discovery. Nowadays, as the tools are much more advanced, AI can keep up not only with the overall flow of colors but also with many details, such as characters, the style of drawing, and even emotions. As you discover “HAI”, you will see how AI looks deeply into the soul. Here, there are desires, anger, passion, and care.

"HAI" mixes manga and other art styles. The name "HAI" is a declaration of support for AI since 'HAI' in Japanese means 'Yes,' and 'AI' is also part of the name. The HAI NFT collection is comprised of multiple editions released since early 2023 across different marketplaces, each containing a unique set of generative art pieces by using the tools of the time.
